If your Temporary Graduate visa (Post-Study Work stream) is set to expire before 1st July 2023, but you possess an eligible qualification, you still have the option to apply for an extension. However, in such a scenario, you will receive a two-year Temporary Activity Australian Government Endorsed Events visa (subclass 408) instead of obtaining another Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485).

Points To Remember When You Apply for a New Student Visa

If you are considering applying for a new student visa and wondering about your eligibility for the Post-Study Work Stream, here’s what you need to know:

  • Prior student visa application: If you had applied for a student visa to Australia before 5th November 2011, you wouldn’t qualify for the graduate visa.
  • Refusal or withdrawal of previous application: If you had applied for a student visa before 5th November 2011, but your application was either refused or withdrawn, you can still meet the eligibility requirements for the Post-Study Work Stream.
  • Applying for a new student visa: It’s essential to note that you cannot reset the eligibility date by applying for a new student visa. If you find yourself in a situation where your previous visa application was before 5th November 2011, and it was granted, your only option for a graduate visa is to apply under the Graduate Work Stream.

The Second Post-Study Work Stream Visa (Graduate Work Stream)

This Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) is another option for international students who have completed their studies in Australia and carry the Temporary Graduate Visa (first Post-Study Work stream or Replacement stream). This visa allows you to remain in Australia temporarily and gain work experience related to your field of study.

Under this visa category, you can remain in Australia for a period ranging from 1 to 2 years after completing your studies. The specific duration of your stay will depend on factors such as your study location, place of residence, and the degree you have obtained.

You can travel, work, and study there during your stay in Australia on a second post-study work visa. This means you have the flexibility to explore various opportunities, whether they are related to employment or furthering your education.

It is important to note that finding employment while on this second 485 visa is your responsibility. The Australian authorities are not accountable for arranging job placements for visa holders.

The Cost of the Post-Study Work Visa

Acquiring a visa involves certain costs, and knowing the fees associated with the post-study work visa application is essential. The graduate route visa cost may vary depending on circumstances and government regulations. It is recommended to check the official Australian

government website or consult with a qualified migration agent to determine the exact cost for your specific situation.
