Subclass 462 visa in Australia is generally coined as a Work and Holiday Visa. This visa category is structured for those eligible young adults (18-30 years old) who wish to have an extended holiday and would like to work while traveling. The subclass 462 work and holiday visa and subclass 417 working holiday visa are designed for the young tourists of selected countries under the holiday program visa. This visa is further categorized as:
First Work and Holiday Visa – This visa allows certain eligible tourists (18-30 years old) to have an extended holiday while supplementing their funds by undertaking short-term work in the country.
Second Work and Holiday Visa – This visa allows certain eligible tourists (18-30 years old) who have held or currently hold a work and holiday visa (subclass 462) to have a second work and holiday visa.
Third Work and Holiday Visa – This visa allows certain eligible tourists (18-30 years old) who have held or currently hold a second work and holiday visa (subclass 462) to have a third work and holiday visa.

Subclass 462 visa is a temporary permit to the Country. Usually valid for up to one year. This visa allows it holders to:

  • Stay in the country for up to a year.
  • Work in the country while their visa is valid (up to six months with one employer).

What are the Eligibility Requirements for a Work and Holiday Visa 462

To be eligible to apply for a subclass 462 visa, the applicant must meet the Department’s required eligibility conditions:

  • The applicant must be a holder of an eligible passport of the following countries:
    • Argentina

  • The applicant must not be accompanied by any dependent children.
  • The applicant must not have previously entered the country on a subclass 417 or subclass 462 visa (for first work and holiday visa).
  • The applicant must have completed at least three months of specified work in regional Australia on their first work and holiday visa to qualify for second work and holiday visa.
  • The applicant must have completed at least six months of specified work in regional Australia on their second work and holiday visa to qualify for third work and holiday visa.
  • The applicant must have enough funds to support their stay for the initial part of their holidays.
  • The applicant must meet all the health and character requirements of the visa category.
  • The applicant must apply for this visa from outside the country.
  • The applicant (if aged above 18) must confirm and sign the Australian Values Statement to ensure that they abide by the Australian laws and respect the Australian way of living.
  • It must be ensured that any outstanding debt (if any) owed by the applicant or his family towards the Government of Australia has been repaid, and if not, adequate arrangements have been made to pay back the same.
  • The applicant must not have had any Australian visa canceled, or previous application refused.
  • For second and third work and holiday visa, the specified work refers to the full time paid work in any of the following industries-
    • Plant and Animal Cultivation
    • Tree Farming
    • Fishing
    • Pearling
    • Construction
    • Mining

The applicant must also meet certain other requirements based on their country of origin, like-
completion of a certain level of education.

  • Competence in English language (IELTS- overall band score 4.5 at least or Functional English.)
  • Home Government Support. ( A letter of support from the home Government is required if the passport holder belongs to a specified list of countries.)

Processing time for third work and holiday visa is not fixed and changes based on the applicant’s profile and migration requirements.
Generally, the verification procedure for a temporary visa is less thorough than a permanent visa category.
