Other Visas

A visit to Australia can be for many reasons – visiting relatives, going on a vacation, a particular purpose, or just a regular business trip. With changing times and unprecedented globalization, international outreach and travel have become an essential part of society. However, the red tape compliance required to facilitate such a trip can be quite a tense and tricky ordeal. Between background verification, financial checks, references, expression of interest, application, and invitation, going abroad for a brief trip requires a fair amount of deliberation and execution.

The Australian visa application follows a prescribed procedure for different types of visas. The differences depend on the visa category and the type of visa you want to apply for. There are several types and categories of access based on the rights it entitles to the host country’s holders.

A valid visa is required to enter Australia unless you are a citizen of the country or an eligible New Zealand citizen. New Zealand passport holders can apply for the visa upon arrival in the country. The Government has a vast range of visa choices to offer to the world at large. You can apply for a suitable visa category based on your requirements and visa eligibility conditions

There are a collection of visas available to travellers to Australia. The type of visa one should apply for depends on the length of your stay, your passport, and the purpose of your visit.
In addition to the study, work, business, and employment, there are several other reasons for immigrants that necessitate travelling to Australia. In all the scenarios, a visa is generally required to enter Australia.

Other visas to Australia can be classified broadly under the following heads –

Tourist visas- A tourist visa is usually granted to a foreign national who does not have a residence or occupation in the country and whose sole objective of visiting the country is holidaying, recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends and relatives, or for business activities that include – general business or government inquiries, business negotiations, government visits, attending conferences, seminars, job interviews or professional examinations.

Work and Holiday visas- Work and Holiday visa categories in Australia are framed to allow certain young tourists aged between 18 and 30 (inclusive) years old to have an extended holiday in the country while supplementing their short-term fund for support. This temporary permit to the country has the validity of a specific time. This visa category allows young individuals to take a long break from everyday work and enjoy travelling to the country.

Bridging visas- Bridging visas are usually transitory visas in Australia that permit their holder to remain in the country for a specific time. Bridging visas typically follow the process of the expiration of your current substantive visa while waiting for the decision on an application for another substantive visa to be processed.

Resident Return Visas- As the permanent visa has five years of travel validity, it supports the permanent visa holder to travel to and from the Country for five years. However, beyond the initial five years, the permanent residence of the visa holder does not expire. The ability to travel to and from the Country is affected after completion of the initial five years. Hence, to facilitate travelling easement resident return visa is required.

This visa is framed expressly for the Country’s former or current permanent residents and those who have served in the Australian Defence Force. An applicant can apply for this visa via these two routes: the long residence route and the defence service route. The main aim behind the formulation of this immigration category is to allow the eligible applicants’ resettlement to Australia.

New Zealand Citizen visa- New Zealand citizens do not need to apply for a permit before coming to Australia.

They can visit and work in the country based on a single entry, temporary visa that ends when you leave Australia.

Protection and refugee visas- This visa is for people who arrived in Australia on a valid visa and want to seek asylum. This visa is granted if you are engaged in Australia’s protection obligations and meet all other visa grant requirements.

Special category visas- This visa category is usually Australia’s immigration authorities granting you a special category visa if you arrive in Australia on a New Zealand passport. This visa is generally issued upon your arrival. The type of conditions of the visa you get depends on when you arrived in Australia.

The shared information is exclusive but not exhaustive. Please get in touch with our professional visa consultants/ immigration agents for more details. There are several reasons to travel to the country. Based on the grounds of travel, visa conditions, and types, the visa permit facility in Australia can be divided into two-

Temporary Visa- Temporary visas are for persons who want to enter the country for a fixed period and are not considered permanent or indefinite. Usually, the validity of a temporary visa is mentioned on the visa conditions. The holders of a temporary visa may apply for a permanent visa (if eligible). Temporary permits are generally granted for specific reasons.

Permanent Visa- Permanent visas are the visa category that allows its holder to stay in the country for an indefinite period permanently. An individual with a permanent residence can settle in Australia and sponsor his family members for permanent residency in Australia. A permanent resident is free to work or study as per their choice in their respective field of interest. A permanent resident can also:

  • Enrol in the free public health care scheme of the Government.
  • Travel to and from the country as many times as they wish for five years.
  • Apply for citizen (if eligible)

A valid visa comes with certain terms and conditions attached to it. It is a visa holder’s duty to always ensure compliance with the applicable visa conditions during their stay in the country. Breach of any of the visa conditions might result in the cancellation of the visa. A visa with a ‘No Further Stay’ condition prevents holders from applying for any other temporary and permanent visas while they are in the country.

Generally, the processing time for different visa categories varies based on several internal and external factors and the applicant’s profile.
