Contributory Aged Parent Visa (Subclass) 864

The subclass 864 contributory aged parent visa is framed for eligible children to sponsor their retired parents to stay permanently in Australia. For the purpose of subclass 864, eligible children include citizens and permanent residents of Australia or eligible New Zealand citizens who are over 18 years of age. They must be settled, that is, must have been living in Australia for more than two (2) years.

Subclass 864 visa is meticulously structured for individuals who can afford an enormous “Contribution” of money to offset the rights and privileges awarded to the permanent visa holders. It is a way to compensate for the part that they have not contributed to throughout their lives as ordinary residents have by way of tax.

If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen, usually residing in Australia, your parent relative can apply for a contributory aged parent (subclass 864) visa in Australia.

Why to apply for a Contributory Aged Parent Visa 864

Subclass 864 visa is a permanent permit to the country. This visa allows its holder to-

  • Stay in the Nation for an indefinite period.
  • Study and work in the country in their respective field of interest.
  • To enrol in the health care scheme of the Government.
  • To include the members of the family unit in the visa application form.

  • To apply for citizenship (if eligible).

A permanent visa holder is entitled to almost the same rights as the country’s citizens have with minute differences.
