Visa Types

A visa is an official permit that allows its holder to enter a foreign country legally. The visa is usually a stamped document or glued into the bearer’s passport. There are several types and categories of visas, each of which facilitates the holder with different host countries’ rights.

You will need a valid visa to enter the country unless you are a citizen of the country or an eligible New Zealand citizen. Australia has a diverse range of visa choices to offer to the world at large. You can apply for a suitable visa category based on your requirements and visa eligibility conditions.

Australia is truly a Paradise. The country is blessed with beauty, but it also has endless opportunities, especially for those on the lookout for a high quality of life. From world-class education, developed economy, beautiful landscapes, and a relaxed lifestyle to its rich cultural diversity, many reasons draw immigrants to Australia. An English speaking country, Australia has a stable economic market and cosmopolitan culture. Those willing to enter the Australian land come for specific reasons or purpose. They are accordingly allocated and permitted visas. Based on the time validity, the visa permit facility in Australia can be divided into two parts-

Temporary visa- Temporary visas are for persons who want to enter the country for a fixed period and are not allowed a permanent or indefinite stay. Usually, the validity of a temporary visa is mentioned in the visa grant letter. A temporary visa holder may apply for a permanent visa (if eligible) at a later stage. Temporary visas are generally granted for specific reasons or purposes.

Permanent Visa- Permanent visas are the visa category that allows its holder to permanently stay in the country for an indefinite period. An individual with a permanent residence can settle in Australia and sponsor his family members for permanent residency in Australia. A permanent resident is free to work or study as per their choice in their respective field of interest.
A permanent resident can also:

  • Enrol in the free public health care scheme of the Government.
  • Travel to and from the country as many times as they wish for five years.
  • Apply for citizen (if eligible)

The holders of a permanent visa category in Australia are entitled to almost the same rights and benefits as a citizen with a few differences. The processing for a permanent visa category is usually higher than a temporary visa category as the assessment procedure for a permanent visa application is more thorough.

A valid visa comes with certain terms and conditions attached to it. A visa holder must always ensure compliance with the applicable visa conditions during their stay in the country. Breach of any of the visa conditions might result in the cancellation of the visa. A visa with a ‘No Further Stay’ condition prevents holders from applying for any other temporary and permanent visas while they are in the country.
