Big Update: Section 48 barred applicants can now apply for skilled visa onshore

The Australian government recently announced that the applicants with S48 bar can now apply for skilled visas onshore. Starting from the 13th of November 2021, people with S48 bar can apply for visa subclass 190/494/491 onshore.

If you ever had your visa rejected or cancelled, you are subjected to section 48 of the Migration Act, which restricts you from applying for any other visa while onshore in Australia.

The S48 bar has also been exempted for some other visas, including partner visa subclass 820/801, medical treatment visa, special category visa, and bridging visas.
