Canada values professional caregivers who support children and individuals with medical needs. Currently, over 10,000 caregiver jobs are available, and the country is keen to attract skilled professionals. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria to qualify for these roles. 

Eligibility Criteria for Caregiver Jobs 

To be eligible for caregiver positions in Canada, you need to fulfil the following requirements: 

• Work Experience: At least 12 months of full-time work experience in a relevant field. 

• Language Proficiency: A minimum of CLB 5 in English or NCLC 5 in French. 

• Education: Completion of post-secondary education equivalent to Canadian standards. 

• First-Aid Certification: Necessary for those providing childcare. 

• Additional Skills: Depending on the specific caregiver role. 

How to Migrate to Canada as a Caregiver 

The Canadian government has introduced new programs to facilitate the immigration of foreign caregivers. Notably, a recent pilot program now allows caregivers to apply for Permanent Residency immediately. As part of the 2024-2026 Immigration Levels Plan, Canada aims to welcome 15,000 new permanent residents through these caregiver programs. 

To apply for the new caregiver pilot program, you must: 

• Have a minimum language proficiency of CLB 4 in English or NCLC 4 in French. 

• Hold a high school diploma or higher. 

• Possess relevant work experience. 

• Have a full-time job offer as a caregiver in Canada.
