Five Visas for International Nurses Pursuing Careers in Australia

In Australia, there is high demand for nurses with essential skill set and competencies. Hence, the need of enhanced health provisions in community care & maternity services is why this country is seeking nurses. According to Australia’s Future Health Workforce, there would be a noteworthy increase in the requirement of nurses. By 2025, the number of nurses will drop by 85,000 and by 2030, it will drop by 1,23,000.

This requirement allows carers to work or migrate permanently to Australia as skilled workers. Foreign nurses and midwives must register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, and their qualifications must be evaluated by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council, known as ANMAC for it to be within the minimum requirements needed. Also, register as a nurse and, later, file for either a temporary or permanent visa to work in Australia.

Employer Nomination Program:

With this subclass, you will be eligible to apply for a permanent visa when you are less than 50 years and you have at least three years of relevant experience, skills, proficiency in English and the required qualification. This particular visa is for the Australian employers targeting business skills shortages by nominating overseas workers.

Regional Sponsored Migration Program:

The requirements for eligibility are: You must be under 50 years old, and you have been nominated by an Australian employer recognized for operating in the regional areas of Australia, excluding Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Gold Coast, Melbourne, or Wollongong.

Skilled-Independent Visa:

If you do not have a sponsor, or simply prefer to not have one, you can apply for this visa. You should lodge an EOI which is an expression of interest and then receive a letter of invitation from the Department of Home Affairs to apply for this subclass.

Moreover, for you to qualify under this visa, you need to pass the Point Test assessed upon diverse factors such as age, English proficiency, relevant work experience, and occupation.

Working Holiday Visa:

This visa is perfect for those wishing to work and vacation in Australia for one year. It allows individuals to work as a nurse for up to 3 months with any employer. Applicants must be between 18 to 30 years old to qualify. Also, having a passport from a qualified country is a must. Furthermore, it is essential not have a dependent child traveling with you while in Australia.

Skill Matching Visa:

This visa addresses regional skill-shortages in Australia by allowing skilled migrants to move to different areas of the nation to put their skills and talents to good use. You need to meet specified conditions about age, skills, and proficiency in the English Language for you to be qualified for this visa.

Australia offers various visa options that are aimed specifically to cater for skilled professionals working within various premises or stations for either short or long-term periods. If one wants to serve regionally, move abroad on an employer-sponsored permanent visa, or enjoy a working holiday, then Australia has routes that suit the qualifications and objectives of the individual. It is, therefore, important to go through the eligibility criteria for a particular visa subclass to ensure that you meet them before applying.
